The roots of British modernist architecture lie in the 1930s, and at the forefront of the pre-war modernist movement was architect Wells Coates, famous for his Lawn Road Flats scheme in Belsize Park. Grandson Matt Black recallsCoates' life, whilst Magnus Englund, head of the Skandium design chain, who lives in the penthouse flat at Lawn Road, points out the finer details of this extraordinary building. Matt Black is one half of the music duo Coldcut.
