Kate was one of a tiny number of women to graduate in architecture in Scotland in 1961. After battling it out with her fellow male students who simply had not internalised what it really meant to work with a women, Kate MacIntosh turned her sights on working in egalitarian Helsinki. Bringing back some of the gentler aspects of Finnish modernism to the UK, she was soon creating humane buildings that touched people's lives deeply. Hear Kate contrast the state's commitment to decent housing for all in the 1970s with todays commercially dominated schemes.
